Minnie Mouse Magick
Ever since December, my special interest has been Minnie Mouse and by extension the entire Mickey Mouse gang. I'm not talking about the current preschool show iteration; I mean the classic cartoons that surged them to fame.
Classic cartoons have always been favorites of mine--it's one part nostalgia and one part appreciation for the craft that goes into making an animated film. As a pop culture practitioner, I believe the energy of the characters themselves can be harnessed for spellwork. I'm also a believer that you can work with the spirits of any character you choose for your craft--it's worked better for me than I could have ever imagined and despite sounding like a complete loon when I talk about my practice, I'm in a much better place mentally thanks to dipping into this strange iteration of witchcraft. (I'm a bit infamous on Reddit for attempting to work with The Noid but that's another tale for another time.)
My current obsession with the wife of the world's most famous mouse propelled me to reevaluate her character from a more critical lens. Minnie has more positive traits than I thought she did. In her cartoons, she often has a high amount of confidence in herself and a rather healthy amount of self-respect. She knows what she likes and she isn't afraid to pursue it in her own over-the-top cartoon way.
As of this week I decided, why not incorporate her energy into my craft? So I've been using various Minnie items--stickers, journals, printouts, etc.--in a manifestation journal focused on improving my own self esteem. I can't say it's working just yet but I've had luck with similar spells in the past and I'm excited to see where Minnie and Mickey's energies take me.
So, this is my public service announcement to all practitioners on the spectrum: use your damn special interests in your magick. Your own passion for what you love will do great things!
